Artist, Mike Tauber

The Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach is revving up for its latest off-site exhibit at the foaSOUTH Gallery of classic car silhouettes and exquisite coastlines by 22-year exhibiting artist, Mike Tauber. Tauber’s display will showcase the beautiful landscape scenes of southern California coastlines including La Jolla, San Onofre, and Laguna Beach, as well as, ceramic masterpieces of the classic cars that complement the coastline scenery. The exhibit is open daily at the foaSOUTH Gallery located inside Active Culture at 1006 S. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach, CA 92651 and runs daily through January 10, 2020.
“I call this collection: ‘California … By Car’,” shared Mike Tauber. “This collection of artwork features my painterly landscapes of our Golden State and the stylishly modern cars that take us there.”
Mike Tauber is recognized with numerous national and regional awards including the 2018 Laguna Beach Arts Alliance Artist of the Year award. His unique car silhouettes, hand-cut and painted in a trompe l’oeil style, have a 3-dimensional look that create a strong presence in the exhibit space. His landscapes convey a distant perspective, rich surface texture, and luminous light source as seen in early California schools of painting. A series of classic cars, evoking a mid-twentieth century “Tour California” theme, was added to his landscapes series this past year and was well received by guests at the Festival of Arts grounds this summer.
“Mike Tauber has been a Festival of Arts exhibitor since 1998 and we are elated to showcase his work at foaSOUTH through the end of the year,” said Sharbie Higuchi, Festival of Arts PR and Marketing Director. “We believe the public will truly appreciate Tauber’s collection, and are thrilled to display it for Laguna Beach residents and visitors to experience.”
The foaSOUTH exhibit is located at 1006 S. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach, CA 92651. It is part of an ongoing series of shows that the Festival of Arts is holding at the location year around. The building is open to the public Monday through Friday 9am – 9pm, and Saturday and Sunday 8am – 9pm. Admission is free. The Festival of Arts is a non-profit organization whose proceeds support the arts in and about Laguna Beach. For more information call (949) 494-1145 or go to www.LagunaFestivalofArts.org.
